Marie Eloise (Shimic) Hulsebusch was born December 28, 1926, in Guide Rock, NE, the third of six daughters, to Emil and Esther Shimic; and she passed away at age 99 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor on December 28, 2025.
Upon graduation from Guide Rock High School in 1945 she married her high school sweetheart Diederich (Dee) Hulsebusch in Mankato, KS, prior to his leaving for the Navy near the end of WWII.
She was a devoted mother and homemaker to four daughters. Her love of nature was evident in her beautiful flower gardens and her joy in feeding any animal that came to her door. Her innate creativity was also shown in many artistic endeavors she chose.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Kathy, her parents, her husband Dee of 58 years, and her sisters Elsie, Alice, Mae and Jean.
Marie is survived by her sister Shirley Miller of Penn Valley, CA, daughters Sharleen Reed of Lawrence, KS; Diana Schrader (Jim) of Brookfield, MO; Christina Cooper of Topeka, KS; grandchildren Shannan Greene, Katherine Barnard, Deena Harrington (Mark), Aaron Schrader, Elisa Schrader, Ben Schrader, Leslie Merrill; eleven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held at Parker-Price & Davidson on January 7, 2026 at 1 pm. A private burial will take place at Guide Rock, NE.
Memorial contributions may be made to Second Presbyterian Church 210 NW Menninger Rd, Topeka, KS 66617 or to Guide Rock Cemetery Fund PO Box 223, Guide Rock, NE 68942. These may be mailed or brought to Parker Price and Davidson on the day of the service.
