Marie Madonia Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home Inc - West Nyack on Apr. 2, 2025.
Marie Madonia Marie Madonia passed away on March 5th at 6:01AM. She was 98 years old and prayed that she would reach one hundred years old. She was a child of the Depression. Marie was the 6th sibling of 9 brothers and sisters- Louie, Betty, Bardasio, Joseph, Louise, Carmela, Sammy, and Anthony. Their parents were Rose and Baldassare. She is the last of all her siblings who predeceased her. She married Joseph and had two children, Philip, and Joan. Joseph predeceased her at 59 years old after suffering from cancer. Marie worked hard all her life, saved her money, and retired at 82 years of age from J.P. Morgan Chase as Head Teller. She loved her job and most of all she liked talking to her customers. She was sweet yet very resilient to problems and challenges in her life. She was a devoted catholic and relied on God to help her through tough times. Somehow, she was able to face them and overcome them with a sense of humor that allowed her to overlook a lot of unimportant things and enjoy the pleasures of the moment. After retiring from J.P. Morgan Chase, her biggest challenge came after she was diagnosed with metastasized lung cancer in her brain. Somehow, through the grace of God, and the intervention medical technology she survived surgery and cyber-knife radiation. She had to learn how to speak and eat again. That was 16 years ago. For the past two years she has suffered from 20 UTIs and two episodes of sepsis in 2023. When asked how she got through all these health issues, she would say "it was God's will and one day at a time." When she went to a funeral and shook hands with a priest she would say "please ask God not to take me, I still have work that I need to do for him." She was kind, polite, thankful, and loved by strangers that she had just met, her doctors, her remaining friends, Beth and Gerry, son, Philip, daughter, Joan and son-in-law, Dave, and all her nieces, nephews, and their children. All will miss her! To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Marie, please visit our Tree Store.
