Reihs, Marie Luise
TROY - Marie Luise Westpfahl Reihs, formerly of North Greenbush, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by her daughters, after an illness with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Willhelm Westpfahl and Marie Sellenrick Westpfahl. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Helmut Franz Reihs, in 2024. She was raised in Bad Holzhausen Germany, before immigrating to Troy in 1960 and later moving to North Greenbush.
Marie was an extremely talented tailor for all her life. Starting her career in Solingen, Germany, and later at Marshall Ray, Wells & Coverly, Spectors, Boscovs and Joseph Banks. She also spent countless hours providing private alterations for family and friends.
She was a lifetime member of the former Troy Germania Hall Association, in Lansingburgh. A member of the Schuplattler Verein Alpenklang dancing group, as well as the Trachtenmutter for the club. Also, a choral member of the Damen Verein and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Germania Hall and a member of the German American Club of Albany. She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church.
Oma enjoyed gardening, cooking amazing German meals (no one ever left the table hungry), and teaching her grandchildren and great-granddaughters how to make her famous Weihnachtsbutterplätzchen (Christmas Butter Cookies).
Survivors include two daughters, Gabriele (George) Hamm, Johnsonville and Claudia Reihs, Wynantskill; her grandchildren, Bettina (Colin) Tareila, Niskayuna, Erich (Sara) Schur, Schuylerville, Krista (Kyle) Gale, Nassau, Robert (Hannah Pilkey) Hamm, Mayfield and Marcus (Ashtyn) Schur, Speigletown; her great-granddaughters, Jordyn, Audrey, Gwen, Lucy and Sophia; her siblings, Rudolpf (Inge) Westpfahl, Wolfgang (Lindi) Westpfahl and Hannelore Retteberg; sister-in-law, Eilene Reihs; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Marianne Bederke and Lieselotte Spielmann of Germany; her sister-in-law, Irmgard Iacabucci; brother-in-law, Salvadore Iacabucci of Texas; Kurt Bederke, Willie Spiellmann of Germany, and Arno Reihs of Niskayuna.
Special thanks are extended to Tiffany and her team at the Eddy Memorial Center in Troy, Colleen and her team from Community Hospice for taking care of our mom and Oma at the end of her journey, with dignity and peace.
Relatives and friends may call at the St. Michael the Archangel Church, 175 Williams Rd., Troy, on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. - noon, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at noon.
Interment will be in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy.
