Marie Ann Sabo, nee Powers, 82, of Fayetteville, IL, born Wednesday, October 13, 1943, in St. Louis, MO, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at her residence.

A devoted homemaker, Marie took pride in caring for her home and loved ones. She was a longtime member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church, where she faithfully attended services before the parish's closing.

Marie was known for her beauty, her internal strength, her sassy sense of humor, her cooking, and her ability to find joy, comfort, and contentment in her surroundings, no matter where she might be. By those closest to her, she will always be remembered for her ability to speak up for those who needed an advocate, although she was too humble to phrase it quite like that.

Marie could be considered a mass of contradictions: she was born in St. Louis, traveled everywhere, lived in Puerto Rico and all over the west coast, but knew she was a country farm girl at heart. She was the coddled baby of the family who -at the age of 20- drove alone from Illinois to Washington State, with only a paper map to guide her, to meet up with her husband, Eddie. Marie, the high school grad, encouraged her daughters and then her grandchildren to graduate from college and to continue to pursue their educations.

Her grandchildren will treasure their memories of Easter Egg hunts, Halloween bonfires, Christmas Eve games, gifts, and the traditional lasagna, winter sleigh rides followed by cookies and hot chocolate. She, in her turn, treasured her grandchildren.

Marie will be missed by her friends and family. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband, Edward; their's was a love story for the ages.

She was a beautiful lady, inside and out.

She was preceded in death by her:

Husband, Edward J. Sabo
Father, Lawrence Powers
Step-father, Alois "Butch" Waller
Mother, May Powers Waller, nee Nonn
Daughter, April Sabolay

Daughter, Mischele (Craig) Wilson of Belleville, IL
Brother, Lawrence (Marilyn) Powers
Sister, LaVaun Jones
Grandchildren:

Clarice Sabolay
Lillian Sabolay

Lucille Wilson

Brother-in-law, Thomas Sabo Sr.

Services: A private family service will be scheduled at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
