Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Marie Smith Marie Smith, cherished mother of six, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, at the Hanna BG Shaw Home in Middleboro, Massachusetts. She was 91 years old. Marie led with a warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Throughout her life, she touched countless lives with her kindness, generosity, and wisdom. Marie was a pillar of strength for those around her, always ready with a comforting word or helping hand. Marie is survived by her five children, Richard Smith, Peter Smith, Annette Baillargeon, Jeffrey Smith and Dean Smith; her eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; her younger sister, Edie Durand of Kingston, Mass; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Smith; her daughter, Yvonne Peters; and her parents, Sidney and Agnes Sorrentino. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Marie was the daughter of Sidney and Agnes Sorrentino and the devoted wife of Richard Smith. They started their family in Randolph, Massachusetts, before settling in Raynham in 1959. Marie worked at Pine Hill Estates for decades where she spent the later part of her career as a manager. Marie dedicated more than 35 years of service to the town, becoming the first woman elected to the Raynham Board of Selectmen in 1989 and serving for 18 years before retiring at age 80. She volunteered on numerous committees, served as chairwoman of the Raynham Democratic Town Committee, and was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Raynham. Marie also served as the department President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Massachusetts, and the National Vice President of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Division. Marie's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was active in the community she loved and found purpose in serving others, inspiring all who knew her with her selfless devotion and compassion. Visitation celebrating Marie's remarkable legacy of love and kindness will be held at O'Keefe and Wade on December 5, 2025, from 4:00pm- 7:00pm. A Christian mass will be held at St. Ann's Church the following day at 10:00 AM, with a private burial at Bourne National Cemetery on December 8th. Marie will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society, a cause close to Marie's heart.
