Marie Sommovigo, 91, of Salem, NH passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2025 at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, MA.

She grew up in Lawrence and Worcester, MA and graduated from the Venerini Academy in Worcester where she later dedicated 15 years of her life to teaching. Her spiritual journey led her to spend 20 years in the convent, deepening her commitment to service and education. After leaving the convent, she continued her calling as an educator, teaching for an additional 20 years in the North Andover school system. Throughout her life, Marie taught religious education, inspiring countless souls with her unwavering faith.

In a profound act of devotion, Marie served as a lay missionary in Venezuela, bringing hope and guidance to communities in need. Her exemplary life of service culminated in a cherished audience with Pope John Paul II in July 2000, a moment she treasured deeply.

Professionally, Marie worked as a tax examiner for the IRS, where her meticulous attention to detail and integrity shone through. In her leisure time, Marie found joy in playing cards with friends and family and bowling.

Marie will be deeply missed by her daughter, Lisa Sommovigo of Salem, NH; her granddaughter, Gianna Murray and several nieces and nephews, Rene Horne, Mary Duquette, Angelica Dubois, James Lunsford V, Emmett Duquette, Zoe Duquette, Wyatt Duquette and Weston Dyke.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frances and Americo Montefusco; her husband, Aldo Sommovigo; and her sisters, Constance Spatola and Edith O'Hearn.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie's name may be sent to: Isaiah 58, 472 State Route 111, Unit J 102, Hampstead, NH 03841 and to End 68 Hours of Hunger,
