Marilyn J. Bean, 83, beloved mother and grandmother - affectionately referred to as “Nan”-peacefully passed away December 14th, 2025, at home. Marilyn was born on July 6th, 1942, in Indianapolis, IN. She was one of five children born to the late Charles A. and Wilma J. (Ratliff) Stroud.
She was first married to the late John H. Mercer, with whom she was blessed with 3 children and 3 stepchildren. Marilyn then married the late Floyd A. Bean, with whom she spent the next 30 years. Floyd and Marilyn were the cornerstone of their family. They enjoyed many years traveling together, entertaining, and hosting epic family celebrations and holidays. In December of 2024, Marilyn married her current husband, Dave Richards, after reconnecting at a high school reunion, 6 years ago.
Often you would hear her humming while enjoying a multitude of hobbies: painting watercolors, crocheting, cooking, gardening, and sewing. Marilyn was a talented singer and performed in various choirs throughout her lifetime. In addition to her work history and
various talents, Marilyn was best known for her boundless love of her family. Her home was always a place full of warmth and kindness. To say she was devoted to her family is an understatement. Her passion for the youth was unmatched. Her energy unwavering. Her “touch” in something was unmistakable. Whether it be in having the most beautiful flower gardens, cooking spectacular meals, or conjuring up the most interesting adventures. She was spontaneous, creative and FUN! She found her purpose in giving to others.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dave Richards: two children, John Mercer and Julie Seaford: two stepchildren, Tim Mercer and Tammy Brassard: two siblings, Ken Stroud and Linda Miller: eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: one daughter, Jane Vanus: one stepdaughter, Teresa Mercer: two brothers, Don Stroud and Harold Stroud: one granddaughter, Hannah Spencer.
The family finds comfort in knowing she is now in the presence of the Lord, free from pain and filled with joy. Rest in peace Nan…you will be fiercely missed but forever cherished in our hearts and memories.
