Marilyn A. Brown
Marilyn A. Brown, age 91, passed away peacefully Monday, May 15, 2023, at Willow Falls Senior Living. Born February 9, 1932, she was the fourth of five children born to Harold J. and Adeline (nee James) Brown. Marilyn attended St. Patrick's Grade School, class of 1946 and Providence High School, class of 1950. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Church, St. Mary's Carmelite, and Church of St. Anthony, Joliet.
In 2011, Marilyn was named Woman of the Year by the Council of Catholic Women of Church of St. Anthony. She was involved in many parish activities, serving as vice president and greeter. For many years she offered to pick up anyone in need of a ride to Sunday Mass. Also, active with the members of the church, she volunteered at Shepherd's Table for more than 20 years.
Marilyn had a special devotion to the Sacred Heart, Blessed Mother, St. Therese of Lisieux, Little Flower, St. Patrick and her Guardian Angel. She enjoyed supporting the religious orders, most especially the Carmelite priests with whom she held near and dear, Sisters of Providence and Sisters of St. Francis, Joliet.
She was also a member of the Phoenix Club and Young at Heart Club. For many years she attended monthly gatherings for class of Providence,'50. Marilyn was always interested in the history of Will County, the city of Joliet and the village of Elwood. Every Tuesday Marilyn volunteered as a tour guide at the Joliet Area Historical Museum. Extremely proud of her Irish heritage, Marilyn greatly enjoyed many events at Gaelic Park and anything Irish.
Marilyn was a lover of nature. Animals were her passion and everyday she fed the birds and squirrels. She loved horses and horseback riding. But over the years, she was the happiest around her dogs and cats. She loved them and they loved her.
Throughout her career, Marilyn worked as a clerk and administrative assistant at Illinois Securities, Crown-Trygg, and Palumbo/Orange Crush. While on the job, she gained experience understanding the stock market and enjoyed researching, buying, and selling her stocks.
Marilyn is survived by one sister, Dorothy (Raymond) Morello of Lombard, IL; Eleven nieces, Kathleen Hayes of Danbury, CT, Mary E.(Raymond - d.) Meader of Joliet, IL, Margaret (Irving) Agard of Burlingame, CA, Teresa Hayes of Lombard, IL, Jacquelyn (Kenneth) Vancina of Charleston, SC, Janet Hayes of Downers Grove, IL, Helen (Craig) Marchbank of New Lenox, IL, Laura Morello of Lombard, IL, Mary Sue (Harold) Stetson of Naperville, IL, Robin Brown of Minooka, IL, Donna (Micky) Popplewell of Russell Springs, KY; One nephew, John Patrick Hayes. Marilyn took great pride in being a Great Aunt,and then a Great-Great Aunt. Also survived by cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Harold and John (Barbara) Brown; and sister, Adeline (John D.) Hayes.
Visitation for Marilyn A. Brown will be held Friday, May 26, 2023 from 3 - 7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. Funeral services Saturday, May 27, 2023 with prayers at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at the Church of St. Anthony at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

I remember Marilyn from the days of St. Mary's Carmelite Church and the Phoenix Club. My mother, Ella Bolton, and I were members. Marilyn was an active member back then. She was very kind to me when my mother died, and would thoughtfully include me in activities. I still use the crocheted piece she gave me for my piano bench years ago.
