Marilyn Hamme Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc. - Rochester on Mar. 12, 2026.
Passed away at home with loved one present on March 9, 2026, at the age of 98.

Predeceased by husbands Stephen Heckert, Roy D. Hamme and son Richard Heckert.

Survived by:

The Heckert family: Nancy Heckert, daughter, Ruth Anna Heckert daughter in law and grandchildren: Nicole Meers, Bill Heckert, Heidi Heckert and Eric Heckert.

The Hamme family: Roy E. Hamme and Carol Whitman, Lynn and Henry Duran, Susan and David Nisenbaum, Nancy and Michael Lacy, Karen Hamme and Len Marsh, Janice and Tim Comfort.

She had fourteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren

Marilyn was born in Chicago, IL to Edward and Julia Funk on April 6, 1927. She grew up with her parents and brother, Edward in Chicago and graduated high school in 1945. Marilyn married Stephen Heckert and had two children, Richard and Nancy. The family relocated to Fairport, NY in the mid 1960s. Her husband Stephen passed away in 1980. She married a long time friend of the family Roy Hamme of Rush, NY in 1985.

Marilyn worked for the Fairport Central School District offices for many years and was a member of the local Catholic dioceses.

Marilyn was an avid Bridge player. She traveled to competitive bridge tournaments throughout New York State and earned enough masterpoints to become a Grand Life Master.

Marilyn was active throughout her life. She loved dancing and often reminisced of frequenting dance halls in Chicago as a young woman. She liked to play golf when she was younger. In later years, she enjoyed hiking along the canal and visiting local parks. She traveled and explored the different regions of the mid-Atlantic and New England with her husband Roy and later with her friends. She never grew tired of learning or visiting new places.

Time with family was important to Marilyn. The support and love she gave her children was extended to her nearby grandchildren. She could always be counted on to be present at sporting events, life milestones and family celebrations. Her presence enriched their lives.

Marilyn was a loving and supportive mother, a much loved grandmother, great-grandmother and a cherished friend.

We are lucky to have known her. She will be deeply missed.

Marilyn's Funeral Mass will take place on THURSDAY March 19, 2026 at 10 AM at Saint Marianne Cope Parish (2061 East Henrietta Road, Rochester, New York 14623). A procession will follow to White Haven Memorial Park.
