Mrs. Marilyn Kay Winter Bennett, age 85 of Chatsworth, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
She was a member of Chatsworth First Methodist, Chatsworth, GA.
Marilyn and Milford met during elementary school in Speedway, IN. Their love story began in junior high school but blossomed many years later in 1958, after she pursued higher education at Hanover College, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Marilyn was the lead majorette at Speedway High School. They were married in 1959 and welcomed their two boys in 1960 and 1961. They began their family in Indianapolis, IN, and were blessed with their second son while living near Cleveland, OH. In 1972, they moved their family to Rochester, MI, where they were very involved in their community and church until the two of them moved to Chatsworth, GA in 1998 after Milford retired from General Motors. In Chatsworth, they continued their legacy of service to the community and church. Marilyn was a lifelong learner and enjoyed participating in Bible study throughout her adult life.
Marilyn adored playing tennis and golf. She was such a passionate spectator that when a major grand slam tennis event was on everyone knew not to get in between her and the TV.
Music was a lifelong joy. In her youth, she played the clarinet and piano and loved singing in the church choir.
Marilyn was also an accomplished porcelain artist, creating many exquisite pieces cherished by friends and family. In addition, she was a talented seamstress who generously shared her skills.
Being a housewife, mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother were among her most cherished accomplishments, always striving to have a beautiful and happy home. Marilyn loved to cook for her family, creating memorable holiday meals enjoyed by multiple generations. Some of her most cherished memories were of time spent with the Bennett extended family, especially Milford's sibling reunions.
She adored flowers in every form and would surround herself with their beauty whenever possible. Her favorite flower was the rose, and she grew roses everywhere she and Milford lived.
Above all, she fiercely loved Milford, her family, friends, and Jesus, never wavering in her faith despite all of the challenges of life, including her struggle with dementia and the recent intestinal illness.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and John Winter; brother, Lynn Winter.
Survivors include her husband, Milford R. Bennett; sons and daughters-in-law, Milford R. Bennett III and Karen M Bennett of East Lansing, MI, and Mark A. Bennett and Zhela B. Bennett of Rochester Hills, MI; grandchildren, Dana Carroll & Charles "Billy'" Carroll of Leesburg, FL, Mark Bennett II & Emily Bennett of Fayetteville, NC, Ashley Kagey & Jonathan Kagey of Okemos, MI, and Victoria Tate & Nicholas Tate of Winterville, NC; great-grandchildren, Annelise Kagey, Abigail Kagey, Amelia Kagey, and Eleni Bennett; many beloved extended family and friends also survive.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Chatsworth First Methodist Church: PO Box 152, Chatsworth GA 30705.
Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Marilyn Kay Winter Bennett will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chatsworth First Methodist Church, located at 111 West Cherokee St, Chatsworth, GA 30705.
