Marilyn Lee Kurt, 91, of Springfield, Virginia passed away on August 2, 2025. Marilyn was born on November 30, 1933 in Fremont, Ohio to Richard and Esther (Haubert) Lambert.
She worked as a legal secretary in Fremont and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was a teacher in North Olmsted, Ohio, Annapolis, Maryland and the University of Maryland, College Park, and as a Pastoral Counselor in Prince George's County, Maryland.
Marilyn met her husband John at a St. Patrick's Day Party in Cleveland in 1962 and married in 1963.
They lived in Carmel, California for two years before moving to Bowie, Maryland.
She completed her bachelor's degree in education at the University of Maryland, College Park and also completed a master's degree in education. She later obtained a master's degree in counseling from the University of Maryland and subsequently, a degree in pastoral counseling from Loyola College.
Marilyn enjoyed living in Bowie and was an avid skier, tennis player, runner and Terps fan.
She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed volunteering for her daughter's activities - she was the Bluebird/Camp Fire Girl leader, the Swim Meet timer and volunteer at many school functions.
She and John moved to Greenspring Village retirement community in Springfield, Virginia in 1998. She was very active in the Catholic Council, the Garden Club, the Bridge Club and the Computer Club. Most of all, she was a dedicated and cherished grandmother to her 2 grandchildren, Katie and Jake.
Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, John H. Kurt. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Mary Michaeleen "Micki" Kurt (Jensen "J.R."), and grandchildren, Katherine (Katie) Grandinetti and Jacob (Jake) Grandinetti.
She was a woman of great faith and will be dearly missed.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fremont Ohio followed by a burial at St. Joseph's cemetery.
