Marilyn Helen Schneider Savetsky (September 7, 1934 – December 17, 2025), originally from New York City, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Marilyn earned advanced degrees from Hunter College, taught college English, and later served as an elementary school principal in New York City. She married Stanley Savetsky in 1979 (d. 2008), and together they traveled extensively around the world, while spending summers in the Fourth Lake community near Lake George, NY. After retiring from teaching, Marilyn pursued her passion for drawing, painting, and photography, becoming an active member of the Art Students League where she exhibited her work often. Marilyn was also an active member of The National Arts Club for many years, where she enjoyed entertaining family there, especially during the winter holidays.
Marilyn is survived by her extended family in North Carolina, California, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.
The Mazze and Schaubach families wish to thank UNC Hospice at Home, along with the care team at LiveWell, for the compassion and support they provided Marilyn at the end of her life. Memorials can be made to Hunter College, designation "School of Education General Fund" (https://www.hunter.cuny.edu/give) in Marilyn's honor.
