Marilyn J. Zuern Sereno
Marilyn J. Zuern Sereno, 82, of Erie, passed away Saturday October 11, 2025. She was born in Erie on October 23, 1942 a daughter of the late William "Fred" and Dorothy Hoppel Zuern.
Marilyn graduated from Academy High School in 1961 and went on to work for the Erie Telephone Company. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Marilyn was truly one-of-a-kind, from her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes that let you know everything was going to be okay, to her kind, gentle, and humble soul and her loving, giving, and forgiving heart. She taught us that family is everything and gave us deep traditions and values. She had a deep faith in God and the power of prayer. She loved unconditionally.
Marilyn devoted her life to her husband "Eutee" and daughters that she lovingly referred to as her dark and light-haired beauties, and her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored. Her family was her pride and joy along with her pups and grand-pups throughout the years. Marilyn had a unique way of making you feel good about yourself. She enjoyed the holidays and decorating, baking, sewing, and gardening and making memories with family and friends. We are eternally grateful for the honor of calling you ours as a wife, mom (ma), and nana. You will be irreplaceable in our lives and eternally loved and missed until we are together again.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son in law, Scott Babo; three brothers in law, Gary Patama, Joe Sereno (Ruth), and Jimmy Sereno (Shirley); and one sister in law, Ceil Sereno.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Eugene Sereno; two daughters, Stacey Babo (Richard Castucci) and Mindy Averill (Mike), all of Erie; four grandchildren, Brittany, Josh, Breahna, and Michael; four great grandchildren, Bella, Olivia, JoVonni, and Donovan, and Baby Ortiz arriving shortly; one brother, Jerrell "Jerry" Zuern (Mary) of Las Vegas ; one sister, Beverly Patama of Erie; one sister in law, Mary Sereno; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on Friday at 12 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
