Marilyn Joan (Wright) Shifflett, age 82, of Marion, passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital on November 2, 2025. Marilyn was born on February 7, 1943, in Delaware, Ohio, to the late Charles E. Wright and Thelma Irene (Stewart) Keis. Marilyn graduated from Marion Harding High School with the class of 1961. Marilyn worked for over 10 years as a laundry attendant at the Colonial Coin Laundry Mat. This is also where she would meet her husband Kenneth Allen Shifflett and the two would get married on November 10, 1988, and would enjoy almost 37 years of marriage.
Marilyn loved to go camping and would often pitch her tent at Alum Creek State Park, Delaware State Park, or her favorite place, Hickory Grove State Park. She loved to cook for her family and her chili with beans was always well received. She not only loved Christmas and Thanksgiving but loved preparing the meals for these holidays. She was known to make an "ooie gooey" 3-layer Christmas candy bar that never had any left after the meal.
Marilyn loved to take drives through Amish country with her husband. They also never passed a garage sale on their adventures. Marilyn and her husband were also known for being quite the pranksters among their family, though they always got caught. Marilyn had a weakness for shopping and garnered quite the shoe collection of the years. She also had a love for Jewelry. When she could not get out of the house, she loved to put together puzzles and play Yahtzee with her family.
To Marilyn family was everything. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren with all of her heart, despite many of them believing that she loved "Tasha" her 4-legged companion more than them. She loved spending time with her dog and even had a T-Rex costume for her to wear for Halloween.
Left to cherish the memory of Marilyn are her sons, Leonard, Richard, Kevin (Krista) and Timothy (Jodie) Oliver, daughter, Kimberly (Scott) Sargent, brother Paul (Linda) Wright, grandchildren, Doug, Matt, Adam, Crystal, Michelle, Kaci, TJ, Danielle, Megan, Trisha, Jay and Daniel, along with a host of great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. (Her nieces are the ones that gave her the nickname Chocolate Marilyn!)
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harrison Norman and Gertrude Elizabeth (Armstrong) Stewart, her paternal grandparents, Earl Charles and Mary Elizabeth Wright, brothers Bud and Gary Wright, and a great granddaughter Candase.
Friends and family are called to the visitation for Marilyn Thursday, November 6, 2025, from the hours of 6pm until 8pm at the Boyd Funeral Home.
