Marilyn Simonsen Obituary


MARILYN MAE SIMONSEN
January 1, 1928 ˜ April 13, 2024

Marilyn Mae Van Sant Simonsen was born in Madera, CA, to Elva and Claude Van Sant Jan. 1, 1928. She was educated in California, Oregon, and Arizona, and graduated from North Phoenix High School in Phoenix, AZ, in 1945. She attended Fresno State, graduated from Fresno County General Hospital School of Nursing as part of the Nurse Cadet Program. She worked as a registered nurse in various capacities. Marilyn married Edward Simonsen July 2, 1949. Edward died March 26, 1997. In 1950, they moved to Portland. And then, in 1965, the family moved to Milwaukie, OR. In 2002, she moved to Vancouver, where she remained.
She was a member of the Oak Hills Presbyterian Church in Milwaukie where she was a volunteer, an elder and deacon and sang in the choir. After moving to Vancouver, she became a member of East Woods Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Daphne Chapter No. 139 of Eastern Star, where she was a Past Matron and Past Grand Esther of the Grand Chapter of Oregon, Order of Eastern Star. Later, she was a member of the Madera County Historical Society, as well as the Van Zandt Society. Survivors include sons, Donald and Jerry; daughter-in-law, Pamela Simonsen; grandsons, Brandon Simonsen, Curtis Simonsen, and Nicholas Simonsen.
A memorial will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver May 18, 2024, at 3 p.m.
