Marilyn Irene Stevens (Chytil), a beacon of warmth and kindness, passed away peacefully at her home on February 16, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on December 22, 1936, in
Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Marilyn was a cherished daughter of the late Joseph Chytil Sr. and Margaret Adelaide (Simpson) Chytil. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to family.
Marilyn was predeceased by her beloved husband, Fred Stevens, and is now reunited with her parents, her brothers Joseph Jr., Frank, Don, and David, her sisters Anna Jean Chytil and Margaret Pascoe, her son-in-law Michael Dubina, and her precious granddaughter Christine Martin.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through her surviving family: her devoted daughter Debbie Dubina; her loving granddaughter Lori, along with Lori's husband Chris Cain; her grandson-in-law Joseph Martin; and her cherished great-grandchildren Erik Miller, Austin, Zach, Mattie (Cody Scears) Cain, Dakota (Kira), Shayla Wilkinson, Ellyauna Flis, and Gunner Martin. Marilyn was also blessed with two special great-great-grandsons, Hudson and Waylon Scears, who brought immense joy to her life. Marilyn's memory is also held dear by several nieces and nephews who admired her deeply.
A proud graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, Marilyn dedicated her professional life to serving others, retiring as an aide from Mayview State Hospital. Her compassion and dedication were evident in the care she provided, leaving an indelible mark on those she worked with and cared for.
Marilyn's heart was as expansive as her love for nature. An avid bird watcher and flower enthusiast, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially when shared with her family. Her daughter, Debbie, was not only her child but also her confidante and companion, as they shared countless cherished moments on their porch and explored the aisles of Goodwill on their shopping sprees.
Creative at heart, Marilyn had a flair for crafting and sewing, and her Halloween costumes were nothing short of legendary. Her culinary skills were celebrated by family and friends alike; her cherry tarts, pumpkin rolls, tuna casserole, chili, and fried foods were always prepared with love and perfection. Holidays at Marilyn's home were filled with unique games and activities that created lasting memories, while her recitation of Bible verses and heart-to-heart talks left an enduring impression on her great-grandchildren. There will always be a special laugh as they remember her infamous Jameson shot and halloween scares. Known affectionately as "GG," she was adored by all who knew her, for to know her was truly to love her.
Marilyn's beautiful smile, matched only by her kind heart, made her a beloved presence in the lives of many. She was gentle yet strong, always standing her ground when necessary but offering kindness to all she encountered. In every sense, she was an all-around great person in this world, and her absence will be deeply felt.
In accordance with Marilyn's wishes, there will be no services. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. As we remember Marilyn, let us carry forward her spirit of love, kindness, and unwavering strength, ensuring her legacy lives on in our hearts and actions.
