Marina Guerrero De Tejada, age 89, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, in Greenwood, Indiana. She was born on September 22, 1936, in the city of La Vega in the Dominican Republic. She was a woman whose life was defined by love, generosity, and strength. She was deeply known and warmly remembered in her community, not because she sought recognition, but because she lived with an open heart toward everyone she met.
Those who knew her best often said she was the kind of person who would skip a meal without hesitation if it meant feeding a stranger. At the same time, when life demanded strength, Marina never hesitated to step forward. She was a strong woman who took the reins in moments of challenge, whether for her family or in service of a friend in need.
Above all, Marina was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a rare gift for nurturing others, loving not only her own children but anyone who needed a mother’s care. So much so that many of her son’s friends from high school still lovingly refer to her as “Mama” to this day.
Marina is survived by her beloved husband, Andres Tejada; her son, San Miguel (Nelson) Tejada; her daughters, Altagracia Guerrero, Modesta Guerrero, and Adriana Guerrero; and her siblings, Adolfina Hiciano, Virginia Hiciano, and Antonio Hiciano.
Marina’s life was one of love, endurance, and selfless sacrifice. She taught by example what it means to give without expecting anything in return, to show up fully for the people you love, and to meet life with both compassion and courage. Her greatest joy was her family, spanning generations, and she took deep pride in the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry her love forward.
She will be deeply missed, but her love will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched and in the family she held together so faithfully. Her legacy will not only be remembered—it will continue to be felt.
