Mario Rios Mercado

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mario Rios Mercado, who left this world on October 31, 2025. Born on May 24, 1963, Mario was known to all who encountered him as a larger-than-life presence, the life of every party, and a loving father and grandfather whose infectious laugh could brighten even the darkest of days.

Mario dedicated his life to his family, and he is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Montez, and his children: Mario Mercado, Jr., Justin Mercado (Desiree), Shelby Mercado (Roland), Audrey Mercado (Nicolas), Matthew Mercado, and Angelyssa Mercado. As a proud grandfather, he adored his grandchildren: Justin Jr., Layla, Reba, Daisy, Nazareth, Arabella, Arralynn, and Nicholas Jr., each of whom he held dear to his heart.

Mario was also deeply cherished by his siblings, who include brothers Victor Mercado (and his wife, Diana) and Jesse Mercado, as well as sisters Audelia Mercado, Irene Mercado, and Rosie Mercado. His family bonds were strong, and the love shared among them created lasting memories that will continue to inspire future generations.

He was preceded in death by beloved family members: his dear daughter, Reba Mercado; his father, Jose Mercado; his mother, Rosa Mercado; and his brother, Oscar Mercado. Their absence has left a significant void in Mario's life, yet his enduring spirit and the legacy he leaves behind will forever remain a pillar of strength for his loved ones.

In addition to his devotion to family, Mario had a zest for life filled with passions. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and was an enthusiastic fan of hot rods and racing. His enthusiasm for both hobbies reflected his vivacious personality and love for adventure.

A Celebration of Life in honor of Mario will be held on November 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Puente & Sons Funeral Chapels-South, located at 3520 South Flores Street, San Antonio, TX 78204. Following the celebration, a Rosary will be at 3:00 PM at the same location, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather in remembrance and reflection.

Mario Rios Mercado will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will undoubtedly continue through the love and laughter he infused into the lives of those around him.
