Marion Pope Cheney

Marion Pope Cheney, Ed.D., of Titusville, Florida, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026, after a long fight against myelofibrosis.

Marion was born March 21, 1940, to Benjamin Irvin Cheney and Mildred DuBose Cheney (nee Sims) in Washington, Georgia. He graduated from Washington-Wilkes High School, Mercer University, University of Georgia, and Nova Southeastern University.

"Doc" taught psychology and social sciences for 39 years at Brevard Community College where he also served as assistant golf coach, focusing on the psychology of excellent performance. He was often greeted by former students while out and about in Cocoa or Titusville.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Linda Dougherty Cheney, daughter Anna Cheney Heiney (Daniel), granddaughter Zoey Heiney, and grandson Ian Heiney, all of Titusville; sister Patricia Britt (Walter); and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by son Michael Pope Cheney, brother Benjamin Irvin Cheney, Jr., and sisters Lelia Cheney Freeman and Mildred Cheney Cohen.

Marion was known to many as a friendly, caring human who genuinely enjoyed connecting with people. He brought joy and humor to his family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Services will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2026 at 3:00 PM at North Brevard Funeral Home, 1450 Norwood Ave, Titusville, FL 32796 with a with a reception to follow. His ashes will be interred alongside Michael's in the family plot in Washington, Georgia. Donations may be made to St. Francis Hospice at 1250 Grumman Place in Titusville.
