Marion Reasner Cox

September 7th, 1937 – September22th, 2025

Marion Reasner Cox, age 88, of Gainesville FL, passed away peacefully at her home on September 22nd, 2025.

She was born September 7th, 1937, in Camden, New Jersey to E. Luther Reasner and Ruth Brounley Reasner. She attended Pennsylvania Hospital's Diploma Nursing Program in Philadelphia in 1955 and became a Registered Nurse. At that time this was the most common way to become a nurse. She later received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida International University in 1978 and worked for many years at Plantation General Hospital, initially as a floor nurse starting in 1972 and later in administration. She retired in 1995 and moved to Gainesville. She was a hospital volunteer for several years at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was an avid Gator fan and loved to sew, knit, crochet, and do other crafts.

Marion was preceded in death in 2021 by her husband of 62 years, Roger L. Cox, as well as a son, Lawrence A. Cox (Diane Cox Wilson) who died in 1987. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Cox Eckenrode (Howard W. Eckenrode), and leaves behind two granddaughters, Kristin L. Ebbeling and Jennifer Ebbeling Singleton (G. Matthew Singleton), and a great grandson, Edward Lawrence Singleton (aka Teddy) who was the joy of her life these past few years. She is also survived by a foster brother, Jerry J. Cowley Sr (Jane Cowley), as well as many nieces and nephews, and other extended family members. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her two brothers and their wives, Rev. Robert Reasner (Shirley Reasner) and Rev. William Reasner (Judith Reasner). Both of her brothers were United Methodist Ministers in New Jersey.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 27th, at 11 am at the Chapel at Forest Meadows Memorial Park – Central, 4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32606, with interment to follow there. A brief visitation will start at 10:30 just prior to the service.

Yesterday

I was one of Marion´s classmates at Pennsy and one of those in the mini reunions in Florida until I moved back up north. Even though Pennsy was tough, the hard work paid off. I remember her as being professional with an even and pleasant disposition. I am honored to have known her. May she be at peace with the Lord. I know her family and friends will miss her in their presence.
