Marion Lawrence (née Williams) Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 6, 2026.
Marion left us on January 20, 2026, just the way she would have wanted, comfortably at home and surrounded by family and friends. Her warmth, outgoing nature, and genuine curiosity about people granted her an almost magical ability to make friends wherever she went, drawing individuals into her orbit whether chatting with a stranger in a checkout line or reconnecting with a long-lost family member. Her personal strength, optimism and endless positivity carried her through many challenges, while her love of travel and learning meant her world was wide and filled with welcome new experiences.

Marion Veronica Williams was born on February 5, 1942 to Veronica Krushnowski and Elwood Williams, in Wilkes-Barre PA. Marion's parents divorced when she was young and she enjoyed a close relationship with her stepfather, Casey Friar, and her half brothers, Richard and Casey. Her family moved to Levittown, PA in the mid-1950s, and she ultimately raised her own family in Bucks County, where she chose to spend the rest of her life.

Marion built a life centered on service and helping others. Even as a child, she knew she wanted to be a nurse. Excelling in science at Delhaas High School in Levittown, PA, she went straight into Frankford Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1962 and entering her profession at Lower Bucks County Hospital. That experience launched a healthcare career that spanned more than 50 years as an operating room nurse, a health insurance auditor, a practice manager, and a Director of Surgical Services at medical facilities throughout the greater Philadelphia area.

Marion proudly served her country as a commissioned officer and Flight Nurse in the United States Air Force Reserve and Pennsylvania Air National Guard from 1963 to 1969. Commissioned as a USAF Second Lieutenant in June 1963, she completed training at Gunter AFB in Alabama and Brooks AFB in Texas, earning her Flight Nurse designation. Based at Willow Grove NAS and flying out of McGuire AFB, she attained the rank of First Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in February 1969. Her service as a Flight Nurse took her across the globe: from Japan, Hawaii, and Midway to the Azores, Germany, and England.

Her instinct for service also extended into her community, and she became an active member of the Democratic party, serving as an elected councilperson for Tullytown Borough in the early '80s. She also worked on campaigns in Wrightstown and on civil rights issues across Bucks County over the course of decades. Marion also volunteered internationally, taking three tours with Operation Smile where she worked with teams repairing cleft lips and palates for children in Russia, China, and Romania.

Marion took real pleasure in living, embracing new people, places, cuisines and experiences with a wide open heart. Her love of travel led her to roam frequently -- from the Czech Republic, France, and Italy, to islands all over the Caribbean. From her beloved beaches in Cape Cod and Florida, to the national parks of Utah and Arizona, she was always ready to pack and go.

This enthusiasm for exploration encompassed her mind as well - Marion never stopped learning. She took countless community college courses, and particularly enjoyed immersing herself in writing and visual art. She found so many things interesting, and approached the world as an endlessly fascinating place. And while she was always up for an adventure, she was also just as happy to relax on a beach, or curl up on the couch with a good book and a warm dog.

But the most important aspect of Marion's life was family. Sharing the traditional Slovak dinner on Christmas Eve and creating Lemko Pysanky on Easter with three or more generations around the table were her favorite times of the year. Spending time with her sprawling network of cousins sparked lasting friendships. Connecting with her father's extended family in the second half of her life brought a whole new set of relatives to love. But at the center of it all were her children and grandchildren. She was adored by them, and whether planning the garden landscape with her son Kevin, scouring Costco with her daughter Karyn, or thrifting with her grandchildren, David and Triona, these were always the very best times.

Marion is survived by her son Kevin Lawrence (Luise Moskowitz), her daughter Karyn Lawrence, her grandchildren, David Lawrence and Triona Lawrence, her grand-dog Luna, and a large extended family as well as her half-brother Richard Friar. She was predeceased by her half-brother Casey M. Friar, and her mother Veronica, father Elwood, and step-father Casey J. Friar.

Interment for Marion will be held at Doylestown Cemetery, 215 E Court St, Doylestown, PA 18901, on Friday May 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM. A memorial gathering will be held at Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve, 1635 River Rd, New Hope, PA 18938, at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marion's memory may be given to Operation Smile.

Marion and I shared the same name, sense of humor and Michelin rating potato chips and red wine. She was a caring, thoughtful and devoted friend. We both believed in angels. She is now our kind angel watching over us. I will miss her terribly.
