Marion L. Schultz, age 96, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at Stone Crest Residence in Wausau, Wi.
Marion was born on January 15, 1929, in Wausau, to Carl and Mabel (Hanson) Hummel. She was one of six children. Marion’s early years were lived in Wausau until the family moved to the countryside, now known as Weston. She graduated from Wausau Senior High School in 1947 followed by Central State Teacher College to earn a diploma to teach in a rural school. Marion received a BA and Master’s degrees in education from University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. A teaching position took Marion to Green Bay where she met Elmer Schultz of Door County. They wed on August 9th, 1958, at Peace Church in Schofield. The happy couple were blessed with the birth of two sons, Carl and David. Sadly, Elmer passed away too soon on May 1st, 1961.
Marion taught preschool and elementary age students for 27 years in Bruce, Marshfield, Green Bay and lastly in Wausau. She was a proud member of the WREA, MCREA, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the Gamma chapter of Wisconsin. Over the years, Marion was active at Pilgrim Lutheran Church from being a den mother to Troop 465, Homme Home Rep, and lastly as a Busy Bee Quilter. In the community, Marion served on the Wausau YWCA Solo Parents group and was a long-time member of the YWCA Monday Morning Readers Book Club. Marion’s grandfather, Carl Hummel, Sr., was the artist that designed and created the City Seal of Wausau and gifted it to the city in 1913. She enjoyed playing bridge, baking the family traditional German Christmas Stollen (a tradition that continues), her pets and most of all spoiling her five grandchildren.
Marion will be dearly missed and is survived by her two sons Carl (Pat) Schultz, Oconomowoc, WI and their children Tom (Angie) and Becca: David (Janice) Schultz, of Wetmore, Michigan, and their children Mollie (Kevin), Elsie (Jay), Sarah (Kyle). She is further survived by nine great-grandchildren: Luca, Lily, Max, Andrew, Will, Kit, Isla, Archer, (plus one more on the way!), and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer, her parents Carl and Mabel Hummel, sister Eleanor (LaVell) Berg, and brothers Carl, John (Bernadette), William, and Bert (Betty) Hummel.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 709 Weston Ave, Wausau. Lay minister Eugene Viegut will preside. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at church. To continue to share memories, a reception will follow the service at church. Memorials may be directed to Pilgrim Lutheran Church and Forest Park Village where Marion resided since 2015.
The family would like to thank Brainard Funeral Home for their help with funeral arrangements! Also, the family gives a big thank you to Forest Park Village, Gardens Assisted Living Home, Stone Crest Residence, and St. Croix Hospice for their love and care.
Marion will be laid to rest next to Elmer, at Little Sister Cemetery, Sister Bay, WI, in the spring of 2026.
