WAPAKONETA - Marjorie Anne Beam, 92, of Jackson Center, passed away at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Wapakoneta Manor in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
She was born on March 28, 1931, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of the late Sherman O. Beam and Helen G. (Boyd) Beam.
Marjorie is survived by her brother, Charles "Bud" (Carol) Beam; a grandson, Timothy Jackson; five nieces, Cheryl, Cathy, Cindi, Candy, and Casey;13 great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Barb Wical, Jean Harmon, and Barb Sailor.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a niece, Christy Ellis.
A retired teacher, Marjorie graduated from the Moody Bible Institute, New Orleans Seminary, Carson Newman University, and earned her master's degree from Wright State University. She taught elementary school in Maui, Franklin, and Jackson Center Local Schools. She was honored by the Jackson Center Education Foundation as a recipient of the Teachers Touch Lives award.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she served with Circle 1. She was also a member of the Shelby County Retired Teachers and the American Club. Marjorie began traveling in Tanzania at the age of 70. Since that time, she founded an orphanage in Bariadi, Tanzania and had a nursery school named in her honor.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church, 607 S. Main Street in Jackson Center, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens in Centerville, Ohio at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made, in Marjorie's memory, to the Tanzania Fund, 607 S. Main Street, Jackson Center, Ohio 45334.
