Marjorie Sue Claud

Marjorie Sue Weatherspoon Claud, a beloved member of the Nunnelly community in Hickman County, Tennessee, passed from this life to her Paradise on November 8, 2024, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 29, 1941, in Buffalo, Tennessee, she was the cherished firstborn of Mattie Lou Stewart Weatherspoon and Monroe Weatherspoon, their only child for seven years. Marjorie, known affectionately as "Margie," was a devoted wife, caring grandmother, and a doting great-grandmother whose legacy of love and kindness endures.
Margie married her high school sweetheart, Dorris Claud, the day after her graduation. Their marriage spanned 63 years, embodying a true commitment through all of life's seasons, especially in their later years, which were marked by unwavering dedication and resilience.
Growing up on the farm, Margie developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for simple living. She often accompanied her father on his trips peddling goods throughout Humphreys and Perry Counties, delighting in meeting new people and listening to their stories. As a farmer's wife, Margie was no stranger to hard work. Whether it was cleaning hog houses, tending to baby calves, or handling farm duties alongside her husband, she never shirked a task. She also held roles at J & H Manufacturing, the Hickman County Clerk's office, Tencon, and eventually retired after 30 years at Clark Container.
Margie imparted invaluable life lessons to her daughter and grandchildren, teaching them how to garden, cook, preserve foods, and raise animals. Family gatherings, especially Sunday dinners, were her pride, and she cherished supporting her daughter and grandchildren in sports, and for 13 years kept the scorebook for ladies' softball teams that Dorris coached. She was a dedicated member of the Only Church of Christ, the Nunnelly Church of Christ, and for the past 30 years, the Centerville Church of Christ. Her passion for community extended into her volunteer work with 4-H and her service on the County Agriculture Committee.
Preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Diane Hubbs, Margie is survived by her husband, Dorris; her daughter, Melody Skelton (Danny); her grandchildren, Matthew Skelton (Kim), Megan Lampley (Ben), and Ethan Skelton (Alisha); and eight great-grandchildren: Abbie, Chloe, Kinzie, Cole, Caden, Luke, Sawyer, Emery, and another on the way, Charlie Mack, her sister, Debbie Anderson, her sister-in-law, Peggy Claud, and special nieces and nephews.
Margie brought joy to everyone she met, greeting each person with a smile and a kind word. She led a life marked by humility, warmth, and generosity, embodying kindness in every role she filled-whether at church, with her family, or through her work. Her love, humor, and spirit will remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
