MARJORIE A. CRAWFORD

Marjorie Alice (Collins) Crawford passed away, with her family at her side, on Oct. 9, 2023, at the age of 97, in Vancouver, WA, after suffering from a fall at home. She was born to Sumner and Minnie Collins on July 10, 1926, in Omaha, NE.
Marjorie graduated from Omaha’s Benson High School in 1944, and attended a year of college at what was then Omaha University. She retired from NW Bell Telephone Co., in 1977 after 31 years of service, so she could take care of her mother.
She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Narcissus Chapter #269. She was also a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneer’s of America, the Humane Society of the United States, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, AARP, and AAA.
Marjorie volunteered several years for the American Red Cross, assisting at their blood drives, and early in her life, she achieved and surpassed the five-gallon blood donor milestone.
Since 1992, she volunteered each week at PeaceHealth SW Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, having accrued over 14,000 hours of service. She was the recipient of both the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and the President’s Call To Service award.
On Friday, Feb. 14, 1987, Marjorie married Max E. Crawford. Their marriage was a happy one, but was short lived, when Max passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 22, 1988.
Marjorie is survived by her nephews and nieces, Gregory A. Collins (wife, Penny) of Camas, WA, Connie Collins, Steve Collins, and many more grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sumner and Minnie Collins of Omaha; brothers, Donald S. Collins (wife, Agnes), Vancouver, and Ralph Collins (wife, Joyce). She was a favorite aunt, and will be missed, especially at family gatherings and holidays.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel. Interment will be at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park in Omaha, where she will be laid to rest next to her parents. In lieu of flowers, Marjorie has requested that any memorials be made to the Humane Society of SW Washington, in Vancouver, or to the charity of your choice.
