Marjorie Howard-Jones

Born April 14, 1926, to Henry and Sophie Mayers, Marjorie ("Marge") Howard Jones grew up in Los Angeles, CA. She attended UCSB, where she majored in social services. In 1952, Marjorie married Arthur Tony Howard Jones. The couple had three daughters, Carolyn Louise, Barbara Diane and Patricia Jane.
Marge moved to Carlsbad, California in 1959, and became involved in a variety of volunteer activities such as the Parent Teachers Association, Friends of the Library, Carlsbad Historical Society, Carlsbad Historic Preservation Commissioner, and Arboretum. She also devoted a significant amount of time to various philanthropic activities. Marge was also an accomplished writer. She authored many historical pieces, including but not limited to, a nonfiction book titled "Seekers of the Springs" about the history of Carlsbad. She also scripted a variety of videos, wrote garden book reviews, and served as a staff writer for the Carlsbad Journal and Coast News. Marge loved living in beautiful Carlsbad and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of its history as well as conversing with friends and family about its latest happenings.
Her garden was her sanctuary; it was always in bloom and frequently enjoyed by her family and friends. Marge was a passionate reader and looked forward to her regular trips to the library. She had a beautiful, diverse circle of friends with whom she enjoyed spending time, and who undoubtedly enjoyed the quality, educated yet light-hearted, conversations Marge liked to have.
Marge possessed a mindful, yet deeply pragmatic, attitude toward life. She curated daily habits built around simple pleasures, like reading, visiting with dear friends, sitting in the garden, FaceTiming with family (including great-grandchildren), and enjoying a good meal with a glass of wine topped off with a chocolate. Rarely did she let any form of negativity disrupt her peace. Marge will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Marge's 100th birthday, Tuesday April 14, 2026 at 11:00am at The Crossings at Carlsbad.
