Marjory Pick Wipprecht Hooker, age 97, of Tulsa OK, June 29, 2023, died with her loved ones surrounding her. Born in Washington D.C., April 8, 1926 to parents, Read and Victoria Rebecca Wipprecht. Marjory graduated from Bryan, Texas High School and attended Baylor University where she earned her degree in Radio Communications. At Baylor she was very involved with the drama department. She was a radio disc jockey for KORA, a long running radio station in Bryan and was a drum majorette for the Baylor Bears marching band. In College Station, Texas, Marjory met and married Texas Aggie, Edward Wilson Hooker, in 1950. Marjory and Ed were married 59 years before Ed's passing in 2009. Marjory and Ed started a family in Austin, TX where Ed taught science and coached football at St. Stephen's Episcopal School. In 1960 they moved to Tulsa where Ed continued his teaching career at Holland Hall School. Marjory began her career as a librarian for the Tulsa City-County Library system while raising four children. She started on a book mobile serving small communities around Tulsa like Mounds and Kiefer. She worked at Nathan Hale library where she loved conducting story hour programs for children. Marjory promoted to the head librarian position at the Allie Beth Martin Regional Library in Tulsa. After her retirement from the library system, Marjory became a volunteer docent at Gilcrease Museum for nearly thirty years. She attended classes at the University of Tulsa to develop her expertise. She gave public and private tours to adults and children interpreting the art and artifacts in the collections. Marjory loved to travel the world with Edward and loved creating family vacations in Colorado with her children and grandchildren. She supported and enjoyed Tulsa Opera and Tulsa Ballet. Marjory was an avid reader and she loved to dance. She was dedicated to fitness and enjoyed the outdoors and time at the family cabin she and Ed built at Tenkiller Lake. In 2016 Marjory moved to the retirement community of independent living residents at Montereau where she quickly made many friends and developed a close companionship with Bill Rinehart. Marjory and Bill gained a reputation for being the best dancers at Montereau. Bill remained a supportive and steadfast partner in Marjory's life until her passing. Marjory was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ed, and son, Dan. She is survived by her daughter, Leigh V. Standingbear and husband Patrick; daughter-in-law, Judy Teske, daughter, Ann R. Hanisch and husband Michael Hanisch; son, Scott W. Hooker and his partner Debbie Tiehen; and grandchildren Read Hanisch and Miriam Hanisch. A Memorial service will be held on July 21, 2023 at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Montereau retirement community followed by a celebration of life reception from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Gilcrease Museum,
Alzheimer's Association or the Tulsa City-County Library.
