Mark Branch, age 61, passed away on December 26, 2025, at his home in the Portland neighborhood of
Louisville, Kentucky, a place that knew him well and will forever echo with his laughter, his music, and his unmistakable presence. He was born in Louisville February 9, 1964 to the late Francis and Doris Branch.
To know Mark was to know joy turned all the way up. He was the consummate life of the party, a true "Portland Legend," and a die-hard rocker whose spirit could not be contained. Whether he was busting a move on the dance floor, pounding out a rhythm on the drums, or belting out his own unforgettable rendition of "Free Bird," Mark lived loud, proud, and unapologetically himself. Music was not just something he loved. It was something he embodied.
Mark never met a stranger, who frequently greeted others with "Rock-n-Roll", rather than the customary "Hello". He had a gift for making people feel seen, welcomed, and instantly at ease. He was a loyal friend, a devoted neighbor, and a man who genuinely loved kids and looked out for those around him. His porch, his stories, and his laughter were open to all. If you needed a smile, a song, or a reminder that life was meant to be enjoyed, Mark was your guy.
Above all else, Mark was family. He is survived by his beloved children, Santana Hudspeth and Sebastian Hudspeth, who carry forward his fire, his humor, and his generous heart; and his treasured granddaughter, Sierra Hudspeth, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Laurie Branch, Timmy Branch (Joey), Dorothy Branch (Rick), Tracy Matthews, and Frank Rose, along with several nieces and nephews who will forever remember him as the fun uncle, the storyteller, the one who made every gathering better just by showing up.
He was preceded in death by his special friend, Freida Hudspeth, whose place in his heart remained constant, and by his siblings Cindy Craig, Kelly Colgate, Pam Gunter, Beverly Branch, Benji Branch, John Branch, Jennifer Jecker, and Jean West, whom he now joins again.
Mark Branch lived fully, loved fiercely, and left a mark that will not fade. His legend will live on in the music turned up too loud, the spontaneous dance moves, the shared laughter between neighbors, and every time "Free Bird" comes on and someone sings it just a little louder in his honor.
The family will honor Mark's wish for cremation. Legacy Funeral Center, Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 W Market Street, has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family request that donations take the form of payment to the funeral home to cover final expenses.
