Mark Brewer Obituary

Brewer, Mark Alan
KILLINGWORTH, Conn. - Mark Alan Brewer died at 1:41 a.m. on December 26, 2025. His last 18 months were spent fighting Parkinson's Disease. He fought it fiercely but eventually surrendered to it. His last 11 months of that fight were spent in at the Evergreen Woods Retirement's Health Center, North Branford, Conn., in Hospice. The Evergreen staff took excellent care of him. As was his nature, he bonded with all of them, and they with him. Hospice care was provided on-site by Connecticut Hospice. The two staffs worked extremely well together to adjust their support to his changing circumstances. He especially loved talking to his Social Services Support Person and his Supervising Hospice Nurse. He loved to talk, and they loved to listen.
Mark was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on May 26, 1950. He moved to Delmar, N.Y. in 1966 with his parents and brother, where he graduated from Bethlehem Central High School in 1967. He is survived by his brother, Jeff (wife Beth); his nephew, Jonathan (wife Ola); niece, Stephanie (husband Ben); and grandnephew, Zachery. He was predeceased by his parents, Floyd and Coleen Brewer, of Delmar, N.Y., and his best friend, Bob Williams. Bob's family was Mark's 2nd family for most of life. Mark was honored by helping to scatter Bob's ashes in the Hudson River as part of a Celebration of Bob's life.
After earning a B.A. in History at SUNY Albany, he remained in the Capital District for most of the rest of his life. He went to work for the Social Security Administration in the Schenectady, N.Y. Social Security Office, where he spent his entire work life. He and his work friends, Joseph Acevedo, Cheryl Adamec, Lynne Clute, and Mark Kindinger, had many good times together during his work there, and visited regularly after he retired. During his spare time, he was an avid reader of history, current and past, and he was an avid record collector. He had a huge collection, which he gave to a friend before he moved to Branford, Conn., for the rest of his life.
There will be no funeral. In accordance with Mark's wishes, he was cremated. He will be buried next to his parents in the Bethlehem Cemetery, 286 Kenwood Ave., Delmar, N.Y., in the May-June period, time yet to be determined. A celebration of life will be held after the funeral, time and place to provided by the Cemetery at the time of burial.
