Mark Vann Champion, age 69 of Mexia, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, July 18th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Groesbeck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 19th at 10:00 am at Groesbeck Funeral Home in Groesbeck, Texas with his lifelong friend Dennis Wilson, who is officiating the service.
Mark was born on August 21, 1955, to the late John W. Champion and Goldie (Reed) Champion. He often spoke of the tremendous impact his parents had on his life. Mark made a profession of faith at the age of 10 and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Groesbeck on December 5th, 1965.
Mark attended Groesbeck schools from 1st-12th grade and graduated with the GHS class of 1973. Following high school, he attended McLennan Community College and later Navarro Junior College.
Mark retired in 2015 from Luminant, formerly Big Brown of Fairfield, Texas as the Plant Operator after 32 years of dedicated service.
Mark dearly loved his family, his friends, and undoubtedly….golf. He was a member of his high school golf team and his college golf team and continued playing throughout his life accumulating a total of 7 holes-in-one, 3 double eagles and numerous prizes and awards from various tournament participation.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his siblings, John Champion (Rebecca) of Park City, Utah, Craig Champion (Wanda) of Groesbeck, Deanna Champion McKeever (Keith) of Lubbock, Molly Champion Baize (Jeff) of Crawford; nephews Craig Champion Jr. (Jacy) of Groesbeck, Josh McKeever (Missy) of Lubbock; nieces Carmen Reyes (Al) of Bryan, Tara Moore (Harry) of College Station, Ashley McKeever of Temple, Paige Baize of Austin, Perri Baize of Crawford; 11 great nieces and nephews, and a very special friend and companion Jo Bennett of Mexia.
Pallbearers will be Cap Prince, Jimmy Harryman, Jeffrey Vest, Craig Champion Jr, Josh Champion McKeever, and Tristan Champion Moore
Honorary pallbearers include River Champion, Carsen Reyes, Christian Moore, and the GHS of 1973
The family extends its deepest appreciation to Dr. Harris at Texas Oncology, the staff at Providence Hospital, and Providence Hospice-Community Healthcare of Texas for their compassion and care given to Mark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Mark may be made to Faulkenberry Cemetery, P.O. Box 464, Groesbeck, TX 76642.
