Mark Covert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sims Funeral Home - Soda Springs on Apr. 28, 2025.
Mark D. Covert, age 71, passed away on April 25, 2025, in Grace, Idaho. Mark was born on May 28, 1953, to Calvin and Marintha Skinner Covert in Cleveland, Idaho. He was the baby brother to Larry, Theo, MarLane, Edwin, and Gaylin.
Of all his siblings, he was the only one born in a hospital. He and his siblings grew up on Cottonwood Creek, or "Kid Creek" as they called it. He graduated from Grace High School as a proud Red Devil in 1971, where he was a wrestler, basketball player and, most of all, the class clown.
Mark married Kris Dutton on June 29, 1974, then later divorced. They were blessed with a son they adored, Jared. Though the marriage was not permanent, they remained friends.
On October 7, 1993, he married the love of his life, Deb. With this marriage he gained 3 more children, Misty, Spanky, and Janae, whom he loved as his own.
Mark thoroughly loved camping, hunting, golfing, playing pool, antique trucks, and time spent with family and friends, especially playing cards and dominoes.
He is survived by his wife, Deb Covert, of Grace, Idaho, 4 children: Jared Covert of Tremonton, Utah, Misty (Chris) Davis of Soda Springs, Idaho, Furman "Spanky" (Tina) Starnes of Grace, Idaho, and Janae Starnes of Sumter, South Carolina. 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren with 2 on the way, 1 great-great grandchild and his "270 bonus kids", his very special girlfriend but "don't tell Lou", his other 3 wives who have fur and four legs, they are useless having no thumbs and too short to do dishes, a brother; Theo Covert of Preston, Idaho, his sister MarLane Covert Nance of Cleveland, Idaho and sister-in-law Lynda Covert of Cleveland, Idaho. Along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Larry Orr, Edwin Covert, Gaylin Covert, sisters-in-law Faye Orr and Sonja Covert and brother-in-law Gus Nance.
To know Mark was to love him and his contagious deep belly laugh. We love and miss him deeply. Until we meet again, save us a place at the table for cards and dominoes.
To honor Mark's wishes, he was cremated. There will be no funeral services. There will be a celebration of life August 9, 2025, at the "Redneck Jamboree" in Grace, Idaho.
The family would like to thank Brett Smith and staff at Lakeview Medical Clinic, Caribou Emergency services, Caribou EMTs, and Portneuf Medical Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Mark D. Covert to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
