Mark Robert Durrett
July 10, 1973 – September 1, 2025
Mark Robert Durrett, 52, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, surrounded by the love of his family. The compassionate staff at the hospice center were angels to both Mark and his loved ones during this difficult time, offering comfort and care that will never be forgotten.
Born on July 10, 1973, at Martinsville Memorial Hospital, Mark lived a life full of warmth, humor, and deep connection. He was a devoted father to Tyler Durrett, Heather Durrett, and Andrew Durrett, and a proud grandfather to Rowan, Bodhi, and Odin. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Ann Morris; his brothers, Joseph and Paul; and many friends, coworkers, extended family, and his dog Navy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Edward Durrett, and his grandmother, Shirley Elaine Morris, who touched his heart in a special way and remained a source of love and inspiration throughout his life.
Mark had a deep passion for landscaping and found great fulfillment in his career, where he mastered many aspects of the field. He was a simple man at heart, finding joy in life's everyday pleasures. He loved Steelers football, hiking, grilling, beach days, plants, music, and art. An extrovert by nature, Mark never met a stranger and was known for his infectious laughter, constant stream of jokes, and zest for life.
He will be remembered for his free spirit, his unwavering drive, and the love he gave so generously to those around him.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In honor of Mark's memory, the family asks that you take a moment to enjoy nature, share a laugh, or cheer for the Steelers - just as he would've wanted.
