Mark E. Elston went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Mark was born on May 5, 1954, in
Slinger, Wisconsin, to Bill and Helen (Wienke) Elston. From an early age, Mark's life was rooted in faith, family, and service to others.
Mark was raised with his three brothers, Bob, Phil, and Jeff. He was a wonderful uncle to (Phil) Heather and Rachel, and (Jeff) Nicole, Jessica, and Megan.
Summers at Chetek Bible Camp held a special place in his heart. As a young boy, he attended Bible camp regularly. Later, as a young adult, he lovingly assisted his parents there, helping his mother, Helen, with laundry and his father, Bill, with maintenance. Those summers reflected Mark's servant heart and dedication to family and faith.
Mark faithfully served his church and community in many ways. He drove the church bus at First Baptist Church in Hartford, picking up children for Vacation Bible School and Sunday services, ensuring they had the opportunity to learn and grow in their faith. In his teen years, Mark worked at Little Switzerland and later devoted more than 30 years to the Hartford School District as a custodian. He served at Lincoln Elementary, Central, and Rossman schools, where he was well-loved by students and staff alike. Mark took time to mentor children, leaving a lasting impact through his kindness, patience, and encouragement.
In retirement, Mark treasured time spent with his niece Megan, her husband Jake, and their sons, Henry and Jack, who visited their beloved Uncle Mark often. He also continued to cherish time with his church family and friends, even while residing at The Pavilion. The young adult and college "kids" frequently visited to play games-especially UNO-sing hymns, and read the Gospel to him. Mark's face would light up whenever he heard the words, "The kids are coming to visit."
Mark was deeply loved by many and will be remembered for his cheeky smile, big heart, and unwavering servant spirit. Praise the Lord for Mark's faithful life and loving example.
A Celebration of Life will be held later in January 2026 at First Baptist Church in Hartford, with Pastor Cameron Rankin officiating. A graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Union Cemetery in
Slinger, Wisconsin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartford Building Fund.
Mark's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the members of First Baptist church of Hartford, for their loving friendships and long term presence in Mark's life.
For the exceptional care that was provided to Mark, his family and friends also extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Pavilion, Horizon Hospice, the ICU unit and the third-floor staff at the Froedtert Hospital in West Bend.
