Mark Douglas Joyce, age 83, of Homosassa, Florida passed away peacefully in the early hours of April 16, 2025. Mark was born in Hutchinson, Kansas on Thursday May 15, 1941.
Preceded in death by his parents Herman ("Bill") and Hazel Joyce and his daughter Amy Danielle Joyce. Mark is survived by his loving wife Ellen Joyce, brother Jon Michael Joyce (Lavon) and sons Toby (Clara) Joyce and Timothy (Staci) Joyce, granddaughters Jaycee Ruley and Hadli Joyce and great-granddaughters Stevie and Charlie Ruley.
Mark served his nation with honor in the United States Navy and graduated from Wichita State University with a degree in accounting. He started out as a CPA with Fox and Company and later served as the CFO for various health systems and hospitals. A renaissance man of sorts, Mark had many varied interests including gardening, woodworking, genealogy, history (Civil War and WWII), dogs, fishing, skiing, music, sports (Tampa Bay Rays) and always surrounded by good food and wine.
He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed the company of family and friends and was comfortable in front of the grill, working the grape harvest in wine country or relaxing at Sea Ranch, California. Mark was a constant source of inspiration to anyone who knew him as he dealt with a string of health issues with dignity and class. Never one to complain about the hands he was dealt, Mark always approached life with a positive outlook, a wry sense of humor and can-do attitude. He was an amazing and resilient man who had a genuine impact on friends and family alike and was universally admired for his attitude, spirit and willpower.

The Gaelic quote is absolutely accurate ! Mark was an amazing colleague and friend - an inspiration of equal stature to the Grateful Dead he admired . Will miss him.

Mark was a wonderful friend and will be missed by so many of us who were lucky enough to share time with him. Remembering the trips to Sea Ranch, the Sunday night potlucks and the wonderful parties, just to name a few. You have our deepest sympathy for his loss, Ellen. We loved Mark and we love you.
