Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sinai Mortuary of AZ on Nov. 11, 2025.
With great sadness and even greater love, we share Mark H. Kolman passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, after courageously living with hairy-cell leukemia for 39 years. He faced every challenge with humor, heart, and his trademark determination - the same way he lived his life.
Mark was the determined survivor: a near-Olympic-level swimmer, a fierce and fair attorney, and a lifelong advocate for doing things the right way. As a trial and insurance-coverage lawyer, he was both brilliant and kind - known for his sharp wit, deep integrity, and generosity of spirit. He mentored countless young attorneys, showing them law could be a calling, not just a career - a way to seek justice while practicing with compassion, ethics, and joy. Many still credit Mark for shaping their paths and their sense of purpose.
But the roles he cherished most were husband, father, and "Pop-Pop". Mark adored his grandchildren - Kolby, Logan, Ruthie, and Addie - and nothing made him happier than "gaming out" with them in the spa, taking them to the zoo, or reminding them that "chocolate is a vegetable." His love for them was endless, and they brought him pure joy.
Mark and Susan, his beloved wife and best friend of 27 years, shared a love story built on humor, devotion, and deep mutual care and respect. He liked to joke that they'd been married "47 years - just not to each other," but theirs was a true partnership in every sense. In the end, Mark made the brave and selfless choice to stop treatment when he knew it was time - a final act of love to spare Susan the pain of watching him suffer. They cared for one another completely, right up to his final moments.
Mark lived with zeal, generosity, and gratitude. Whether mentoring young lawyers, playing golf with his golf buddies, swapping jokes over margaritas, or making a stranger smile in the grocery line; he showed everyone around him how to live fully and love deeply.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children Maggie, Adina, and Noah; and his four adored grandchildren. His laughter, courage, and boundless love will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to know him.
May his memory be a blessing, and may we all carry a bit of his joyful spirit forward.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 12th at 12:30pm at Mt. Sinai Cemetery located at 24210 North 68th Street,
Phoenix, AZ 85054.
