Saulters Moore Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral service at Saulters Moore Funeral Home.
Mark was born in Jacksonville, FL on March 3, 1954, to parents Harold D. Langston and Sarah A. (Pat) Langston of New Hebron, MS. He was raised in Winter Haven, FL and was a man of many talents. He was an extremely bright man who never had to study, but always made straight A’s in school. Mark was an Eagle Scout, and the ethics and goals instilled in him of how to be a good man followed him throughout his life. He was a Christian and treated others with respect and kindness. He had a tender, caring heart and was a jokester who loved his classic Rock music.
Mark’s greatest loves were flying his planes and riding motorcycles. In earlier years, he was able to fly and travel all over the United States. He was also a Flight Instructor and flew charter flights all over the country, including over the Bermuda Triangle. He loved to go camping with his best buddy and ride his motorcycles on dirt tracks. He loved animals, especially cats. He always had pets, i.e., parrots, dogs, pigs, an Ostrich, Emus, snakes, pet rats, hedgehogs, and turtles. He loved them all.
Mark retired from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he worked as a Radiation Safety Specialist/Laser Safety Officer and often taught classes on Radiation Safety. Prior to that, he was a Health Physicist at MSDH. Mark returned to New Hebron to care for his Mother, Pat, in 2019 until she needed skilled care in a nursing home. Shortly after that, Mark was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and was admitted to the MS Care Center of Raleigh, MS where he remained until he passed away.
Mark is survived by his sister, Cathy Curry, of Sun City Center, FL, niece, Lesley Wasson (Zach), great-nephew Ashton and niece Azzie of Winter Haven, FL, and some of the closest friends one could ever hope for.
There are not enough words to thank all of the townspeople of New Hebron, Monticello, and Prentiss for the kindness shown to Mark as he began the journey of the terrible disease of Alzheimer’s. Thank you all so VERY much for helping him navigate through life as he struggled before being diagnosed. There are too many people to name, but please know how much your friendship and kindness have meant to him and his family. Also, there are not enough words to thank the staff of MS Care Center of Raleigh, MS, for the exemplary love and compassionate care given to Mark and Sister Cathy.
