Mark Mcgrew Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perches Funeral Home-East - El Paso on Dec. 4, 2025.
With heartfelt sorrow, we honor the life of Mark Steven McGrew, who was born on November 12, 1950, in Baltimore, MD, and departed this life on November 22, 2025, in El Paso, TX, at the age of 75. He had been bravely fighting small cell lung cancer (a highly aggressive cancer) for a year.
Mark was quite an adventurer. He began exploring the areas where his family went camping and then elevated his adventurism into hitchhiking across the country and living off the land, beginning when he was 16. One year when he was hitchhiking, he was going through the desert and found a rattlesnake rattle which he sent to his sister, Ann, for her 15th birthday. About a year later, he met up with his older brother, Eric, and they set up a camp in the wilderness with some friends and lived mostly off the land, as well as a few "care packages" from home.
While in Colorado, he worked as an all-weather Mountain Guide, taking clients to remote areas in extreme weather conditions in the Colorado Rockies. At that time, he was also a consultant and guide for Gilpin County Colorado Search and Rescue and volunteered with the Central City, Colorado Fire Department, where he learned and administered advanced first aid, CPR, was a first responder and controlled many accident scenes (over 200 accidents on Colorado HWY 119) from start to conclusion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Verne M. McGrew, Jr. and Barbara A. McGrew. He is survived by his lovely wife of 53 years, Becky Beach McGrew, his older brother, Eric Wainwright McGrew (Lisa), his younger sister, Barbara Ann McGrew Krauss (Vince), 1 nephew, 2 nieces and multiple grandnephews and grandnieces, as well as numerous friends from all over the country and business associates who became close.
He will be cremated and his ashes spread in an indeterminate location with only immediate family present. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your church or favorite charity. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Mark, please visit our floral store.
