Mark Moye Obituary

Mark Andrew Moye Greenville - Mark Andrew Moye, 47, died on Sept. 6, 2025, in Wilmington, NC. A service to celebrate his life will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 2 PM, Friday, Sept. 12, followed by a reception in the parish hall. The service can be viewed online at www.stpaulsepiscopal.com. Mark was a graduate of J.H. Rose High School and UNC-Wilmington. An exceptional athlete, he was a standout on any field or court he stepped onto from an early age. By high school, Mark's love of the sun and water outweighed his passion for competitive sports. A dedicated and skilled surfer, he spent as much time as he could chasing waves and building connections in Atlantic Beach, Wrightsville, and the Outer Banks. After college, his surf-driven adventures took him everywhere from Hawaii to San Diego to Costa Rica. This seafaring spirit steered him to pursue his commercial captain's license and a career in the maritime industry that suited his skillset and personality. Mark skippered sportfishing yachts out of coastal Louisiana and Morehead City, guided yachts through the Panama Canal and the Caribbean Islands, navigated dredge vessels through the Gulf of Mexico, and steered his personal skiff through the Intracoastal Waterway for sunset rides with his beloved first mate, Hunter. He'd often say his home address was the ocean. Mark loved duck-hunting, cheering on the New Orleans Saints, and listening to music that made him think and feel. He was at home using his hands and making memories in ways that included others: preparing meals, catching Blue Marlin, cruising loved ones on his boat, helping his family and friends. Practically anything that connected him with his people over laughter and sincere connection. A natural extrovert who could charm just about anyone with his warm, full-faced smile and genuine curiosity, he also was a sensitive soul who cared loyally and loved deeply. Above all, Mark thrived on connection and community. He is survived by his parents, Barbara and Jim Moye of Greenville; his brother Jay Moye and niece Rose Moye of Asheville; his aunts and uncles Louise and Bob Hudak of Greenville, and Meg and Frank Moye of Atlanta, GA; and his uncle Michael Moye of Tofo, Mozambique. Mark loved and was loved by a large extended family and network of friends he cherished more than anything in his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Humane Society of Eastern Carolina or Joy Community Center. Arrangement by Wilkerson Funeral Home and Crematory.
