With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Allen Ranscht on March 20, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on October 9, 1956, Mark was the cherished son of Allen and Dorothy Ranscht.
Mark will be remembered as a man with a truly big heart and a deep appreciation for life, family, and community. From an early age, he embraced adventure and teamwork, enjoying a wide range of activities including football, baseball, fishing, hunting and bowling. These early passions reflected his energetic spirit and love for the outdoors. He was a lifelong enthusiast of motorsports and the open road. Mark spent countless hours riding motorcycles and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Some of his most cherished times were spent up north snowmobiling and enjoying the beauty of winter alongside those closest to him. Service to others was central to Mark’s life. He was deeply committed to volunteering and dedicated many years to the Stone Bank Fire Department, where he proudly worked his way through the ranks to ultimately serve as Fire Chief. His sense of duty, leadership, and compassion left a lasting impact on the department and the community he served. Mark’s passion for firefighting extended to his work at Road America, where he served in pit lane as a firefighter for numerous race teams’ pit crews. This role combined his love for racing with his unwavering commitment to safety and service. In later years, Mark found joy in life’s simpler pleasures. He loved driving his beloved Mini Coopers, affectionately named Pearl and Ebony. Evenings were often spent assembling his many Harry Potter LEGO sets, collecting matchbox cars, organizing baseball cards, holding down his recliner, and spending time with his cherished pets, Enzo and Bella. He also treasured long phone conversations, always making time to stay connected with family and friends. Mark’s kindness, sarcastic sense of humor and love for those around him will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his loving partner and better half Renee; his siblings Michael (Loretta), Matthew (Lisa Austin) and Melissa (Matt) Kantz; his children Jeff and Keri; his grandchildren Braxton, Nevaeh “Bays”, Jayce and Jake; along with nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Western Lakes Emergency Medical Services and Sullivan Volunteer Fire Department for their care and compassion during this time.
A celebration to honor Mark’s life will take place at a later date.
