URBANA - Mark Renken, 71, of Urbana, passed away at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2025.
He was born on Nov. 17, 1953, in Springfield, to Weldon and Joann (Leiser) Renken.
Mark is survived by his siblings, Paul (Nikki) Renken of London, England, and Becky (Steve) Shelton of Holly Springs, N.C.
Mark was a 1971 graduate of San Jose High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois. He was a self-proclaimed "audiovisual nerd". He worked for the University of Illinois, retiring after 27-and-a-half years, and then went to work for the secretary of state's office, retiring after 12 years.
Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His laughter - especially that unforgettable, contagious belly laugh - could fill a room and brighten even the hardest of days. His sister treasures countless memories from childhood and holds dear the special bond they were able to strengthen in these later years. Those moments of shared stories, laughter and love will forever be etched in her heart. Mark's warmth, humor and genuine spirit leave an imprint that can never be replaced, and his presence will be felt in every cherished memory.
A funeral service will be held on Sept. 19, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with two hours of visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow in Allen's Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church. Online condolences can be left at hurleyfh.com. Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City is in charge of the arrangements.
