Mark Edwin Riley, 72, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in Stuart, Florida, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was under the tender loving care of Treasure Coast Hospice and surrounded by his loving wife and son. Born on December 20, 1952, in Baltimore, Maryland, Mark lived a life dedicated to service, adventure, and a deep love for his family.
Mark's career spanned over three decades, beginning at the Cape Canaveral Police Department and culminating in his retirement as Commander from the Brevard Sheriff’s Office after 31 dedicated years. His tenure was marked by remarkable contributions in various roles, including SWAT, Narcotics, Pilot, and Rescue Diver. He also served on the Homeland Security team, reflecting his commitment to the safety and well-being of the community he loved.
He held a Bachelor’s Degree and was a man of many talents. Mark’s zest for life extended beyond his professional pursuits; he found joy in the water, whether it was boating, fishing, skiing, or scuba diving. His adventurous spirit was complemented by a black belt in Martial Arts, showcasing his dedication to personal growth and discipline. In addition to these passions, Mark took great pride in his ability to fix anything broken, a hobby that demonstrated his hands-on approach to life and his unwavering support for those around him.
Throughout his life, Mark cherished his role at Christ Fellowship Church in Stuart, where he served on the security team. This position brought him immense joy, as it allowed him to serve the community and connect with those who shared his faith.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Ann Riley, and his devoted son, Matthew (Kim) Riley of Rockhill, SC. He was a doting grandfather to CaraBelle Riley, Maddox Riley, and Tradd Riley, who will forever remember the warmth and laughter he brought into their lives. Mark also leaves behind his sister-in-laws, Angie Wiegand and Annette (John) Friend; cherished nieces Abby (Zack) Fries and Tori Friend; and treasured nephews Joseph (Deanna) Gleason and Terry Wiegand. His legacy continues through great-nephews Beckett Fries, Terrence Davis, and Zak Conners, and great-nieces Kayla (Chandler) Wiegand, Brooke Wiegand, Alexis Wiegand, and Rylee Maldonado. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by his stepmother, Patricia Riley, stepbrother Clarence Ratcliff, and stepsister Jennifer Anderson.
Preceding him in death were his father, Edwin Riley; mother, Ethel Rogers Sears; and sisters Jill, Judy, and Brenda Riley, who welcomed him with open arms.
Mark's life was a testament to love, service, and joy. His unwavering spirit and commitment to his family and community will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Stuart Chapel of Martin Funeral Home, 961 S. Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL. A Mass will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2100 SE Cove Road, Stuart, FL, at 10:00 am with Father Jack Barrow officiating.
A second Visitation will be held at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River, IL, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton, IL, where his loved ones can come and pay their respects on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 1:00 pm.
A celebration of his life will be held at Christ Fellowship Church in Stuart, FL, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in loving memory of Mark can be made to: Treasure Coast Hospice, 1200 SE Indian Street, Stuart, FL 34997.
As we gather to honor Mark, we are reminded of the indelible mark he left on our lives, inspiring us to approach each day with kindness, courage, and an unwavering commitment to the things we hold dear.
