A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mark Smith, 63, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Lea Joyner Memorial Methodist Church in Monroe, LA with Rev. Ben McGehee and Rev. Betty Swanson officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe, LA.
Mark was born in Monroe, LA on May 1, 1959, and passed away peacefully surrounded by his family into the arms of Jesus on January 7, 2023. He graduated from Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM). After working in sales for Cleveland Cotton Products, Del Monte, Pillsbury and RPS, he became an Account Manager at W.W. Grainger, where he had worked for the past 27 years. In that time, he earned recognition 7 times as Presidents Club (the top 1 % of sales in the company) and Annual Achievers 2 times. With that, he earned reward trips to Cancun, The Bahamas, England, Australia, San Diego, Maui, Puerto Rico, and his favorite, last years trip to Cabo San Lucas. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, George and Billie Smith.
Mark and his wife Laura would have been married 40 years in May. They were blessed with 2 children and their spouses, Kevin Smith and wife, Remie, and Kayla Bamburg and husband, Joe; along with 6 grandchildren, who called him “Super Papaw”, Wesson, Archer, Dosson, and Campbell Smith, Guinevere and Marston Bamburg. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Smith and wife, Beverly; his special nieces, Kari Ellis and husband, John, Kristi Buerger and husband, Eric; great nephew and niece, JR and Jessica Ellis.
Mark was a lifelong member of Lea Joyner Memorial Methodist Church (formerly Southside Methodist) and the family requests that memorials be made in his honor to the church.
The family would like to thank his special friends, Mickey and Laurie Traweek, Mark and Donna Thomas, and Andy and Phyllis Thompson, The Genesis Sunday School Class, The Lab Staff at Affinity Health Group, and the Grainger employees, D’anna, Daniel, Roger, Samantha and Tammy for all the loved they showed the family during Mark’s brief illness.

To Mrs. Laura and his whole family, I send my deepest sympathy. I send the family prayers, love, and peace. I started working at Grainger 5 years ago and took over his previous Arkansas route. He was one of the first people that I met when starting my new role, and offered all of the advice that I needed to succeed. He was always willing to lend a hand, be a friend, and to listen. I will be forever grateful for the time that I knew him and everything that I learned from him. He always spoke about his whole family with the biggest smile on his face. He will be truly missed by me and anyone that worked with him in all capacities.
Sincerely,
Ashton Kellick

My deepest sympathies, Laura & family. Mark was one of those whom I was most proud to call Frater. I always found a sincere warmth in his greeting, pleasure in his company and regret only not spending more time there.

I had the pleasure to work with Mark for over three years. Everyone that ever interacted with Mark felt his kindness, work ethic, family importance, and that he was a man of faith. I greatly enjoyed working with Mark, and knowing him. He will be deeply missed by me and the whole Grainger family.
Please accept my condolences and know we will be praying for the Smith family.
God Bless,

It was a pleasure to get to know and work with Mark in my new role over the last 2 years at Grainger. He was always willing to help anyone and I most appreciated getting to know him better during our time in the field together last year and during the Cabo trip. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Laura and the entire Smith family.

Mark was my first friend, having lived across South 6th from him from 1959 to 1963 when we moved. We met back up at Jefferson Jr. High until our freshman year at Wossman when I moved away again. When I started college, Mark was there again. What can I say? He was as constant as the North Star. It was like all those years separated would vanish in a flash. I like to think of our friendship as a braided stream; separating for a while, but always meeting back up. This time Mark is the one moving on, but I know we´ll meet back up again. Farewell for now old friend, until we meet again downstream.

Mark was the epitome of a true southern gentleman. His work ethic was only 2nd to his absolute adoration for his family. Mark sent pictures of all of the stockings he so probably displayed on his mantle during the holidays. I am forever grateful to have worked with him and to call him a friend. Mark, you are a bright light forever in our hearts.
