Mark Steven Sewell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by City View Funeral Home and Cemetery from Apr. 26 to Apr. 27, 2024.
Mark Steven Sewell, 27, of Dallas, Oregon, passed away on April 18, 2024, in Salem, Oregon in a tragic motorcycle accident.

A much-loved son, Mark was born November 20, 1996, in Pendleton, OR, to Melissa Smith and Steve Sewell (wife, Karen). He was a loving brother to Michael, Daniel (fiancé, Jalyn), and Samantha (husband, Josten). He was a wonderful uncle to Vaeda.

Often referred to by others as "Marky Mark", he was full of love, kindness, and a whole lot of fun. He was an avid drummer (beginning in the womb) busting through many bowls, buckets, and pans with his most amazing music. This was his passion throughout his life. His love for food was a close second. Oreos, Snickers, Pop Tarts, chips, his grandma's famous goulash, cereal, and anything that had ice cream in it were treasures you might find in his snack drawer, car, or backpack. A mealtime was his best time.

Mark found ways to liven up any event with his fun, energetic smile, laugh, and funny sayings, but his famous "peace and love" were among fan favorites. His giggle, facial expressions, and love for life would brighten up any cloudy day. During his childhood, Mark would play outside, ride his bike, and steal the hearts of neighbors. In his teenage and early adult years, he was a great customer service agent at every job post. Mark left a lasting impact on all he met.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Mark Smith, and Gene Sewell. He leaves behind a loving family: his parents, siblings, his maternal grandmother, Judy Smith, paternal grandmother, Ramona (husband Dan) Hardy-Hedlund; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends who will miss him dearly.

A service to celebrate Mark's life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11 am at the City View Funeral Home, located at 390 Hoyt Street S., Salem, Oregon. Following the service will be a reception to meet family, friends, and recall how wonderful Mark impacted our lives. A livestream will be available for those unable to attend in person.

The family has made arrangements with Valor Mentoring for those wishing to make a donation towards mentorship to those in need through one-on-one relationships, music, media, the arts, and community outreach projects. Mark's 12+ piece drum set will be donated to Valor Mentoring. Please visit www.valormentoring.com or call 503-383-9826 for more information.

Mark's legacy of kindness, fun-loving character, and genuine joy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

One of my favorite memories of Mark was his "waxed mustache that curled up on each side of his cheeks!"

I remember watching him grow up across the street. He was quite a guy. I am so sorry for your loss.

I only knew Mark for a short period of time but he was a kind soul with a good heart.
