Mark Thompson Obituary

Mark Allen Thompson, 63, passed away on December 5, 2023, of natural causes.

Mark Allen Thompson was born on March 13th, 1960, in the U.S.  Navy Hospital, San Diego, California to Milton and Beverly Thompson. He attended Brandon Valley High School in Sioux Falls, SD. On August 27th, 1984, he received his certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship where he completed his occupation for Master Carpenter. Mark was always recognized by his employers for his outstanding talents in his work.

Mark married his first wife, Sylvia Crawford, on July 15th, 1987. They had two daughters, Shannan and Michelle. Later in life, he married former wife, Pam Knoff. He continued to have a great friendship with them both.

He had a passion for classic automobiles and once had a shiny, yellow 1946 ford pickup truck. In his younger years, he enjoyed running and could run for miles. His favorite holiday was the 4th of July. He always loved to celebrate with his family. He was a great swimmer and loved fishing for walleye. He was fond of his collection of skeleton skulls and would find the simplest things to be so valuable.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Shannan (Steve) Schiller of Delano, MN, Michelle (Jeff) Thompson of Sioux Falls, SD; 7 grandchildren, Alicia, Sophi, Kaytlin, Taitum, Logan, Vivian, Cashton; his siblings Carol (Richard) Baumgart, Dale Thompson, Cindy (Doug) Weatherwax, Carrie Thompson, and Juli Rothenbuehler and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton, and Beverly.

Mark's memorial services will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 3:00 p.m.  Family will be present one hour before the service for visitation. Private family burial will take place at the South Beaver Valley Cemetery.

Our hearts are broken, we lost you too soon. Even though we didn't get to spend much time together, I enjoyed our visits on the phone. You will surely be missed. I know you're with Mom and Dad and all the other angels. Now you'll be the angel looking over all of us and your beautiful daughters and grand-kids and their family. You'll be forever in our hearts. We love you.

Growing up, I remember that big long steal tank we had in our back yard over on West 8th Street. I remember a time when you went down to skunk creek to get crawdads and you were bringing them back to put them in the tank so we could watch the 2 ducks I had (Quack & Quaker) dive in the tank after them. That day you decided it was more fun if you got the crawdads to pinch you with their claws and you'd stick them all over your chest and arms. You then got every girl in the neighborhood screaming and running for home. You just loved scarrying people. Yes, you did love the 4th of July also. As kids you loved to throw firecrackers so they would blow up right by me and point bottle rockets so they'd shoot so close I could almost feel them go through my hair...lol I'm not sure if it's cause you were Bold or if you just wanted to see if you could get by Mom & Dad with it...lol. Either way those are memories that i won't forget. Thank you my brother for giving me those precious memories. May you rest and be at peace now. May you find Mom and Dad in heaven. You always were a Mama's boy. She sure spoiled you rotten...lol. I always said you were her favorite...lol. I know you'll be watching over your beautiful girls and your precious grandchildren from up there...I love you my little/bigger brother and I will cherish those good moments we had together.....always

I remember how you loved my cooking and wanted me to make grandma's green desert for you because mine tasted exactly how she made it. I love you and will miss you dearly. I will always be there for the girls too. Rest In Peace Uncle Mark.
