Mark Edwin Washburne Sr., 80, of Barefoot Bay, Florida, and formerly of Peterborough, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 7, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family.
Born in Cornish, New Hampshire on March 25, 1945, Mark was the son of Russell Washburne and Nellie Sanderson. He married Bernadette Mary Raymond, his beloved wife, on January 1, 1966, in Greenfield, New Hampshire. Throughout his career, Mark dedicated 37 years to NH Ball Bearing in Peterborough, NH, serving in multiple capacities including Supervisor of the Grinding Floor and Supervisor of Planning until his retirement.
Mark will be remembered as a dedicated husband, supportive parent, caring grandfather, youth hockey coach, and an active participant in his community through various organizations such as the Buggy Club, Polish Club, British Club, and numerous contributions to the ethnic festival. In recent years, he was known for his involvement at the Polish American Social Club of Vero Beach, where he helped run Bingo for his "Bingo Angels." Mark was an avid hunter, loved fishing and gardening.
He was predeceased by his father Russell, mother Nellie, stepfather Alonzo Morse, siblings Alan, Roland, Ivan, David, Alice, Catherine (Cathy), Louise, and Rose M. Brooks.
Mark is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Bernadette Mary; daughter Theresa Wood and her husband Richard; son Mark Jr. and wife Lisa; grandchildren Emily Wood Gagnon, Meghan Wood, Blaine Washburne, Olivia Washburne; and sister Grace Farnum.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the Polish American Social Club of Vero Beach, Sunday November 16th at 12pm. A Mass in Mark's name will be held on November 19, 2025 at 8:00am at St. Luke Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be arranged at a future date in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Arrangements are entrusted to Buggs Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
Mark’s family offers their sincere gratitude to Vitas Healthcare, the nurses, and social workers for their compassionate support during his final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Polish American Social Club of Vero Beach, Florida.
