Marka Terin Johnson was born on November 6, 1977, to Andrew Johnson Jr. and Peggy Johnson in
Lewisville, Arkansas. She was baptized at First Baptist Vienna at age 8, and later reborn and baptized at Suitland Road Church of Christ, Suitland, MD.
A resident of Oak Hill, Virginia, she lit up every room she entered with an energy and warmth that was impossible to miss or forget. Those who knew her understood that Marka didn't just meet people-she embraced them, celebrated them, and made them feel seen in a way few others could. Her larger-than-life aura wasn't about being the loudest voice, but about having the biggest heart.
If Marka loved you, you knew it. She made certain of that. And if you were important to someone she loved, she extended that same fierce devotion to you. There were no strangers in Marka's world-only friends she hadn't yet met. Family and friendships weren't just important to Marka-they were everything. She was the person you called when you needed the best advice, delivered with honesty, wisdom, and unwavering love. She was your biggest supporter, your loudest cheerleader, celebrating your victories as if they were her own and lifting you up through every challenge. That spirit of encouragement began early-as a cheerleader. Marka learned to champion others, a role she carried throughout her entire life with genuine passion and joy. Marka's spirit also served as the foundation for her lifelong friendships, many of which also began decades ago as a fiercely competitive catcher for her beloved Oakton High School Cougars.
Music and dance were the rhythms of her life, and she had an extraordinary gift for bringing people together in celebration. Whether organizing a gathering or simply showing up with her infectious joy, Marka created a tapestry of connections and memories that will endure in the hearts of all who knew her. Through years of dedicated service in her youth, she stood poised with her family as a Jack and Jill of America Debutante, representing the Reston chapter. She didn't just belong to the organization, it was always clear that Marka was destined for a life of impact.
Marka's professional journey reflected her greatest passion: nurturing and supporting others. She studied at George Mason University, and her love for children shone brightly as she later led a day school as both administrator and teacher at Children's World and Minnieland Academy. She later worked as a pediatric dental assistant at Ashburn Children's Dentistry before transitioning to general dentistry at Virginia Dental Solutions and Hancock Orthodontics and Northern Virginia Orthodontics with adults and children. She also enjoyed treasured time working with Dr. Brian Lee of The Virginia Endodontic Group. But teaching called her back. As a 1st grade teacher at The Langley School, Marka found her truest calling-a role she cherished deeply and that brought her profound joy. Her students knew her not just as a teacher, but as someone who truly saw them, believed in them, and made learning an adventure filled with love, care and encouragement.
Above all else, Marka's greatest pride and deepest love was her son, Micah. At 24, he embodied everything she had poured into him-kindness, independence, and a genuine care for others that mirrored her own beautiful spirit. She beamed when talking about his love for basketball, his growth as a young man, and the unique qualities that made him exactly who he is. Marka wasn't just Micah's mother; she was his champion, celebrating not only his achievements but the person he was becoming. She spoke often of her excitement for his future, knowing that the love and values she had instilled in him would carry him forward. The bond they shared was extraordinary-a testament to the devoted, nurturing heart that defined everything Marka did.
Marka is survived by her beloved son, Micah Johnson-Parrotte; her mother, Peggy Johnson; her father, Andrew Johnson, Jr. (Mae Johnson); her brother, Anthony Johnson (Courtney Johnson); her niece Laila, her nephew Kai; a host of cousins; extended family; and a close-knit circle of friends who were blessed to walk through life alongside her.
The world feels quieter without Marka's laughter, dimmer without her light and that radiant smile that could transform any moment. She was so beautiful, so deeply loved, and her smile-that amazing, unforgettable smile-was a gift to everyone who had the privilege of receiving it. Those who loved her carry forward what she gave so freely-the knowledge that we are seen, valued, and deeply loved.
