Ed and Marla bought a portion of our property and the house that I spent the first 3 years of my life in. For the next 45 years she was our next door neighbor. Decades with nothing but a few trees (the orchard is gone now) and lots of star-thistle between us. Ed and Marla and my dad were always out there on the acreage with their riding mowers keeping the weeds at bay. Hours of yard sales we spent together, over the years, as they peddled Ed's latest haul of refurbished goods. I usually had first dibs going through the garage before the sale. Marla and my mom were just talking about doing a yard sale a few days before that one day she left to go to town; and my mom listened for her to come home that evening as usual. The garage door didn't go up. The house stayed dark. Perhaps she was staying at her son's house? It's another shocking loss for us to find out the garage door won't ever go up again and see her car lights pulling in. She was a creature of habit, as were we in knowing the sounds of her day, just across the way. It's too quiet over there now. - Christa

Met Marla and Barbara on the Sacramento River Trail. Have known Marla (Barbara) for years. When I went through a divorce, we formed a breakfast club, meeting once a month for breakfast. There was Marla, Barbara, Maggie, Julie, Nancy and myself. We lost Julie not to long ago and now Marla. I loved Marla's laugh, her strong position on things, and her continuous reminder that I needed not to get married again, ever. Love you Marla and hope to be seeing you again with all of our critters waiting for us by the Rainbow Bridge. Say hi to Julie.
