JASPER – Marlene Burrow-Cates, age 88, of Jasper, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Hampton Manor in Adrian. She was born July 28, 1937, in Ogden Twp., to Hervey A. and Margaret (Rinehart) Knierim. She graduated from Adrian High School. On October 15, 1955, she married Hershel Burrow, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 1997. She married John Billy Cates on August 1, 1998, and he also preceded her in death.
Marlene spent her winters in Zephyr Hills, FL and her summers in Jasper. She was a former member of the Fairview United Brethren Church and currently belonged to the Zion United Brethren Church. She was a member of the Eagles, the Moose Ladies Auxiliary, and the Rebecca Lodge of Jasper. She bowled for 36 years on the Friday night League at Rich Lanes and enjoyed camping.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Dennis (Tricia) Burrow and Mark Burrow; three step-daughters, Diane, Debbie, and Ann; four grandchildren, Jessie (Nate), Amber (Brent), Bret (Nicole), and Stephanie; and nine great-grandchildren, Chaise and Alicia Reel, Brady, Leslie, Mariah, and Lexi Burrow, Alyssa Curtis, Nathan Bugbee, and Autumn Gritzmaker; and two great-great-grandchildren, Cooper and Matthew Reel. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hershel; second husband, Bill; her parents; granddaughter, Lisa Gritzmaker; great-granddaughter, Abigail Gritzmaker; and two brothers, Darrell and Gary Knierim.
Visitation for Marlene will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at the Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian. Funeral services will take place on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Zion United Brethren Church. Pastor Aden Porter will officiate, and burial will be in Ogden Cemetery.
Words of comfort to the family may be offered at www.marryfh.com. Memorial contributions in Marlene's memory may be made to the Zion United Brethren Church or to Hospice of Lenawee. The Anderson-Marry Funeral Home in Adrian is assisting the family with arrangements.
