LANCASTER, SC - With much sorrow, we announce the passing of Marlene Catoe Hayes on February 26, 2026, at her home in Lancaster, SC, at the age of 89. Marlene was the youngest of eleven children in Kershaw, SC, and lived a life filled with deep, unconditional love for her family, compassion for others, and steadfast faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Marlene’s most endearing quality was her selflessness toward others, especially her husband, sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was known for always shining a positive light, no matter the circumstances. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds, traveling internationally, gardening, trying new recipes, cheering on the Clemson Tigers, and especially spending time at the beach.
Marlene was a founding member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church and faithfully served for 60 years. She was a dedicated employee of Springs Industries for 41 years before retiring in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lola Pluma Snipes Catoe and Charles Thomas Catoe, and her ten siblings: Louise Ingram, Lucille Rollins, Charles Catoe, Ira Brown Catoe, Shannon Catoe, Jack Catoe, Doris Baucom, Bruce Catoe, Connie Catoe, and Bonnie Robinson.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bruce Hayes; her two sons, Michael (Donna) Hayes and Corey (Pam) Hayes; her adored grandchildren, Brandi (Brian) Elliott, Justin (Erika) Hayes, Hunter Hayes, Haven Langley, Blake (Autumn) Langley, and Will (Aaliyah) Langley; and her cherished great-grandchildren, London Elliott, Pierce Elliott, Gianna Elliott, Easton Hayes, Addison Hayes, Asher Langley, and Harley Langley.
A private service celebrating Marlene’s life will be held on March 28.
Our wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend will be deeply missed.
