Marlene Hummel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCrery & Harra Funeral Home and Crematory - Concord Pike on Jan. 10, 2026.
Marlene Hummel passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 2, 2026, at the age of 93. Her life was a tapestry of music, family, and adventure. She was born in Brooklyn, NY in the 1930s. She is predeceased by her parents and brother, and husband (Charles F. Hummel) of 73 years. She leaves behind friends and family who mourn her passing yet celebrate her life: four children, Mark Hummel, Jonathan Hummel, Laura Hummel (Robert Bodan) and Jeff Hummel. She also leaves behind eight grand children and 3 great grand children.

From an early age, Marlene demonstrated remarkable dedication and resilience, working alongside her mother to help run the family business. Her early experiences instilled in her a strong work ethic and a sense of responsibility that would shape her entire life.

A gifted pianist, Marlene's musical talent opened doors to new worlds. She became an accompanist for an amateur opera company, where her artistry and passion for music shone brightly. It was here that she met her future husband, Charlie, beginning a partnership built on shared dreams and mutual respect.

While supporting the opera company, Marlene continued to nurture her own aspirations for theatrical performance. Her love for the arts was not confined to the stage; it became a guiding force in her life. Together with Charlie, she traveled to many countries, embracing diverse cultures and artistic traditions. These experiences enriched her perspective and deepened her appreciation for the beauty and variety of the world.

Marlene's influence extended far beyond her own achievements. As a devoted mother and dedicated piano teacher, she inspired her children and students to become lovers of the arts and culture. Many of those she mentored went on to pursue their own creative paths, a testament to her encouragement and example.

For many years, Marlene graced the stage in a variety of venues, captivating audiences with her commanding performances. She was known not only for her talent but also for her generosity as a performer, always striving to bring out the best in her fellow actors and musicians.

A long-time member of her local arts community, Marlene was cherished for her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support of others. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched-through her music, her teaching, and her enduring spirit.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
